My inbox this week seemed to be filled with messages from groups like Amnesty International and Avaaz. All looking for my signature against various injustices and helping to educate me on what is going on in the world. Along with this I was very interested to see the rising of the Tibetan people against China in the wake of the Olympic Games. All in all it has felt like quite a political week so this week’s inspiration is based upon my discoveries.
Many are saying that athletes should boycott the Olympic Games being held in China because of their human rights injustices and also their stance on polluting the environment. I would actually say I agree and think it is crazy to even have it in China in the first place, but of course that is only my opinion. Many say you cannot mix politics with sport but I say how do you separate the two? In reality you cannot. We cannot separate ourselves into boxes of politics, religion, sport, money, business or spirituality because we embody all things at once. Whatever your beliefs and morals are they will impact all areas of your life and because spirit (or energy) is the source of everything, it is impossible to remove it from anything.
Besides we should ask ourselves what is more important – gold medals or human rights? The same goes for the free trade agreement the NZ Government is signing with China without a thought for the poor record China shows for basic human rights. By all means I feel we can have this agreement but it seems that we are ignoring all that we do not wish to see for business purposes only. Which again asks the question does politics and money come before human rights also? I am less interested here in expressing my opinions but rather I want to encourage you to ask yourself the questions. China has supported the holocaust in Darfur (because it has interests there), it has caused great suffering and committed horrendous acts against the Tibetan people and it shows no consideration for the environment and those are just a scratch on the surface.
It is not a simple situation. Many businesses have backed themselves into a corner because they utilize not only China but other poor nations to do their work cheaply so they can make more profit. And yes this has provided many jobs for the people of these countries but can we really use that as an excuse for their poor wages and living/working conditions? Take coffee or chocolate, many children are sent out to do extremely hard labour for no money and in poisonous working conditions so that certain brands can produce their products cheaply and make more money. We have a choice, because both chocolate and coffee are luxuries, if we cannot afford to support a fair trade brand do we choose not to have them? Again I am not judging but I am asking the questions because these are questions we must ask ourselves.
The Universe does not view things separately. Energy is energy and what you give out you will get back (multiplied by the way). Interestingly enough there was a large earthquake in China by Tibet which just goes to reflect the tense energy and ‘movement’ that is going on.
We are each responsible for our contribution to the whole. There is no option to separate your-self from certain situations or conditions because we are all connected and your thoughts, feelings and choices make a difference. The choices you are making now are creating your future and the future of every living thing in this Universe! Choose wisely.
