Lately it has been coming to my attention that there is a lot of confusion out there regarding intuition. Intuition is not something special that only ‘chosen’ or ‘special’ people experience, it is something that is innately built into each of us.
Dictionary.com defines intuition as:
1.direct perception of truth, fact, etc., independent of any reasoning process;
immediate apprehension.
2. a fact, truth, etc., perceived in this way.
3. a keen and quick insight.
4. the quality or ability of having such direct perception or quick insight.
Depending on what you study you will get differing opinions on what intuition means. Many people relate to it as simply ‘gut feelings’ or instinct and consider that the ‘psychic’ or ‘clairvoyant’ nature is higher guidance. In my studies and experience I have discovered that intuitive nature is the connection with the soul and the ability to bring through divine guidance for a higher purpose. (I am breaking this down to its most simple form here).
Intuition is simple, subtle and impersonal (for the good of the ALL) where as psychism is detailed, strong and personal. Everyone receives intuitive impulses but most people do not listen to them or they are afraid of them. Understanding how you receive intuition is important because it will help you to pay attention. In my experience most people ‘sense’ or ‘feel’ things, it is just something they feel in their body. We can also get visions (clairvoyance), hearing (clairaudience) and thoughts (claircognizance).
We have created this idea that when we get intuitive guidance and we follow it that everything is going to work out perfectly and that is not always the case. You will not necessarily get a lack of problems from following your intuition, a spiritual path can be a complicated path. It can be frightening to let go of the wheel and allow yourself to be guided.
Our intuition is sharp and often our first thought is accurate but we work more on survival instinct so we do not listen. I have always struggled with meeting people that are not good for me and knowing something is not quite right but they seem so nice and I argue with my first instinct, only to find out later that I should have listened! You are always scanning people for information and if you do not end up distorting it through your ‘filters’ then you will get very accurate information.
This tool is there for your soul’s experience and learning and it is there to help you see the truth. The truth is not always pretty but agreeing to listen to your intuition means deciding you will accept all aspects – the nice and the not so nice.
Intuition is not logical, does not necessarily feel safe and requires trust and faith. People are always telling me that they want to follow a deeper path and listen to their intuition but they have a whole pile of conditions to it. Saying that you will surrender as long as nothing you love gets taken away from you and only good things happen, is not committing to a spiritual path.
I do not believe that we have to be a martyr in order to walk a spiritual or intuitive path, but we are not getting a guarantee of abundance and success either. The soul does not get an intuitive impulse and then ask ‘what’s in it for me?’ It innately knows that there is a reason and in following this guidance will serve a greater purpose on some level and is therefore also not concerned with receiving recognition for doing it.
Intuition is not a ‘gift’ and those who seek to receive recognition for being ‘special’ because of their intuitive nature are distorting its purpose. This usually happens due to lacking the self-esteem required to acknowledge its real purpose. Lack of self-esteem will block your sense of intuition because you will not trust yourself and take it back to survival instinct in the lower chakras. Fears around being approved of by others or losing material success will also block you.
When people ask me how they can increase their intuitive connection I tell them the best method is to start acknowledging it and following it! It has always been there and you are always getting hits but you just put them aside and believe that when there is a guaranteed outcome, you will follow it. Trust is very important when it comes to intuition, you must trust yourself.
Ask yourself also what has more power over you than Divine Guidance? What’s most important in your life? You cannot walk a fully committed path until you look at your life and decide which is more dominant the ‘inner life’ or the ‘outer life’. Pay attention to what you put before your intuition, how committed are you? If you simply do prayer to ‘protect’ yourself or ask for things that you want then that is not commitment. That is based in fear and will not create the result you are seeking. This does not mean you have to become a ‘mystic’ in order to walk an intuitive path but the depth at which you commit will impact your ability to work with the guidance you receive.
Hits of intuition can be pretty simple and we need to understand that the details will follow or be taken care of. Often what is going to happen is actually none of our business. I am often told in response to questions ‘it is taken care of’ and when I trust that it works out as it is meant to. There are always human steps involved but they are not forced steps, they are guided ones.
Intuition should be regarded with respect. It is not a party trick, a way to achieve personal gain or so that we can control things. It is powerful, profound and grows as we do. You cannot decide when to switch it on or off or that only ‘good guidance’ will come through. The more aware you become the more you can align to your intuition. Be very honest with yourself always and know what commands your energy. This is a big subject and I have just touched the surface but I am hoping it will get you contemplating the role intuition plays in your life. Remember that I am only giving you what I have learned and experienced, as always you must go out and learn yourself so you can decide the path that is right for you.
Have a wonderful weekend. My gratitude and love to you all.
