The Day Our Children Saved The World

About a year ago, there was a period in my life where I was in various states of indecision and confusion about what I should do about my professional life. I was already enjoying a wonderful time being of service in ways which I was familiar with but I still felt an uncomfortable sense of void. So, I decided to seek guidance in meditation and asked what lies ahead for me. "What should my next big project with the shinny bells and whistles be?" I asked naively. As I dived deeper into various familiar meditative states, I was abrubtly but lovingly shown the vision of a child. As I gazed deep into the eyes of the faceless child, I then heard my own voice ringing in my ears..."look into the eyes of a child, reach deep down into its heart and you will find answers to all questions".

After awakening from the meditation still swimming in the warm sensation and buzz of the experience, I wondered "Gosh! I must remember not to have a curry before meditating!"

Joke aside, I felt that I had been bestowed a simple yet profound insight and an expression of love resembling a magic wand which I could use to cure the deepest wounds and ills of the world.

"Look into the eyes of a child, reach deep down into its heart and you will find answers to all questions."

What does this really mean? For me it means that if I want to experience true happiness and joy, I have to re-discover the child within me and become 'childlike' again, as oppose to being 'childish' which up to that point was what I was sometimes being. As adults, we are all striving to find love, be in love or be loved by someone. However, the true essence of bliss and joy is really to be able to love ourselves first and then everyone...and in both instances unconditionally. Then it dawned on me like the beauty of a magical sunset that a child is the purest form of love expressed unconditionally.

Billion dollar drug and professional consultation industries are thriving because we are trying to medicate our way out of our troubles when clearly we have just forgotten how to love, feel, create, heal and be happy like once a child we all were. All the years of 'bad' programming by our environment and upbringing has transformed us into somewhat a boxed up society of fearsome, unloving and self deprecating individuals. This is of course a severe generalisation of perhaps one very cynical view.

However, I feel that there is some truth hidden deep in our envious desires that we are all longing for unadulterated happiness and love which is not possessed by materialistic obsessions and temporary worldly seductions. Being a child again means that we can actually love ourselves without judgement; that we can face the world without prejudice and malice; that we can love everyone without the crippling fear of rejection or being hurt.  Put in a more positive way, we can wake up every morning and face the world with childlike courage and unconditional love, ready to create on our blank canvass of life with a total disregard for yesterday and a complete lack of interest for tomorrow.  Imagine a world where everybody wakes up every day with that consciousness.  Well, that's our children's world...isn't it?

I was recently reminded of a quote I once uttered in a teleclass and it was “Children are an expression of Spirit and a vessel of energy that is so pure, it would be negligent for us to ignore its essence, let alone contaminate.” As parents, caregivers and teachers of our future generation, it is our duty to ensure that the essence of our children is preserved. So, how do we achieve that? Firstly, we must ensure that we invest in our own well being and understand how it feels to be a child again, bearing all the qualities I described above. Then in doing so, we can then know how to provide the right conditions and environment for our children to grow into the loving, courageous, creative, strong and selfless beings of tomorrow.  As an added bonus we might even enjoy living our own lives more.

Gaga googoo everyone...
