Discovering Your Voice of Leadership
When you are asked to stand up and speak to a group, how confident do you feel?
How connected do you feel to yourself in that situation, be it a large audience or a small group?
How much do you value that moment when everyone’s eyes are on you?
Why is it important for you to be confident, connected, and to consider the value of every moment that you’re speaking?Because these three qualities, confidence, connection, and consideration are what you need to discover your ‘voice of leadership’.
Why is it important to discover your ‘voice of leadership’? Because our world needs inspiring leaders and visionaries right now - people who can help us navigate through all the rapid changes happening today. We’re inundated with information - inundated with the problems and crises from global warming to the recession and in some countries, war.
Many people are numbing themselves out with drugs and alcohol to avoid feeling the overwhelming changes. We as a society need leaders who can hep us make sense of it all. Our world needs your insights as a speaker and a leader to help move humanity forward. The world needs your ‘voice of leadership’.
So, are you interested in inspiring others when you speak? Then, perhaps you might need to challenge any feelings of ‘I’m not good enough’ or ‘I’m not ready’.
A few months ago, I was at a committee meeting of the National Speakers’ Association of New Zealand in Auckland. We were all asked who was interested in becoming the NEW President of the association. I had a little voice come up and say ‘I am’, which was drowned out right away by another voice inside saying, ‘you haven’t been on the committee long enough’...’you’re not ready...maybe next year’...I held my tongue and didn’t say a word.
Later when the outgoing President called me the next day and said...” Sally, will you be willing to step up to be the President?... I thought, ‘I’m not ready...I have to wait til I’m more experienced...a better speaker...a better leader’. Another voice in me said, ‘Take the plunge, go for it!’ I ended up accepting the challenge and becoming the current President of the Auckland Chapter of the National Speakers’ Association of New Zealand, and it’s been a fabulous experience.
So are you holding yourself back, not fully allowing your voice to be heard?
Do you still feel you’re ‘not good enough’ to be a leader?
Listen to that inner voice of yours who wants to stand up and say ‘YES, I’m ready!’...even though other voices might try to drown it out.
DO NOT wait until you feel good enough. You might never get started. The time is NOW - not later and remember to consider the reality of your time limit here on earth.
The world is waiting for you to discover and share ‘your voice of leadership’. For more guidance and workshop events in feeling more confident, please visit www.sallymabelle.com/events
